The In-Sit project aims to promote the social inclusion and quality of life of the elderly, reduce inequalities and enable everyone to live a full and dignified life, by raising awareness that the elderly population represents an important target population that can interact in different regions and by providing tools and means to increase their and SMEs’ interest in silver tourism. This will be possible thanks to the partners’ work aimed at:

Identify silver tourism best practices that improve the quality of the offer in the target region.

Develop guidelines for tourism operators/SMEs to best serve and meet the needs of ageing tourists.

Create an open source guide on inclusive silver tourism, including a training kit for professional silver tourism facilitators who can structure tourism packages to attract third-age visitors to a specific tourist destination.

This will enable SMEs, public authorities and other relevant stakeholders to provide better and more inclusive services, especially for the elderly, and will allow the development of new services that can also benefit other vulnerable people and create a medium-term perspective.

Target Groups

Elderly population

The social inclusion of older people is increasingly recognized as part of national policies in various areas such as accessibility to services, retirement design and active ageing policies. Tourism is certainly a quality of life dimension that includes levels such as knowledge, autonomy, health, curiosity, challenge and the desire to still play an important role in society.

Main economic and local stakeholders

Tour operators, travel agencies and tourism operators who want to develop their silver tourism offerings, as well as social enterprises that provide services to the silver population in their communities. Local governments and tourism promotion agencies that work to support local tourism and the local economy are interested in promoting a valuable tourism experience for these specific customers.
